Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Sauté the veggies:
Add the diced onion, garlic, and bell pepper (if using) to the pot. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Add liquids and seasonings:
Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Cook the pasta:
Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cover the pot and let the goulash simmer on low heat for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Optional cheese topping:
Stir in shredded cheddar cheese for a creamy, cheesy version, or sprinkle it on top when serving.
  6. Serve hot:
Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve with crusty bread or a side salad.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try mixing in ground sausage or turkey with the beef.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding more beef broth if you prefer a saucier dish.
