Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Press the meatloaf mixture evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Bake the meatloaf layer for 20 minutes.
  • While the meatloaf is baking, prepare the mac and cheese. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in milk, sour cream, and mustard powder. Add shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until smooth.
  • Mix cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce.
  • Once the meatloaf is partially cooked, remove it from the oven. Spread the mac and cheese evenly over the meatloaf layer.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Add extra cheese on top of the casserole before the final bake for a crispier topping.
  • Serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
