Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 to 2 lbs beef round steaks, cubed or left whole
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep the beef:
In a small bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Dredge the beef steaks in the seasoned flour, coating both sides.
  • Sear the beef:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the steaks on both sides for 2-3 minutes per side, then transfer them to the crockpot.
  • Add vegetables and sauce:
In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions and bell peppers for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened. Add them to the crockpot along with the beef.
  • Prepare the sauce:
In a bowl, combine diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and paprika. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables in the crockpot.
  • Slow cook:
Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the beef is tender.
  • Serve:
Once the beef is cooked, garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve the Swiss steak with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish.

Notes
