Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and ground beef, cooking until beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Season beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth.
  • In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the ground beef mixture. Pour half of the soup mixture over the top and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, beef, soup, and cheese.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can add vegetables like peas or carrots for extra nutrition.
  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • For a crispy topping, add breadcrumbs or crushed crackers before the final bake.
