Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ cup ice water
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Add egg yolk and ice water, mixing until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
  • Roll out dough and press into the baking pan.
  • In a bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, vanilla, and lemon juice.
  • Spread apple mixture over the crust.
  • Sprinkle with additional crumble topping.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool before slicing into bars

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
