  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda

  • 2 large eggs
  • ⅔ cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a saucepan, heat Guinness and butter until butter melts. Remove from heat, whisk in cocoa powder, and let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth. Slowly add the Guinness mixture, then combine with dry ingredients until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
  6. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Gradually add heavy cream and beat until light and fluffy.
  7. Once cake is cooled, frost and serve.
