Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 sandwich rolls or hamburger buns
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and bell pepper, sautéing until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine.
  • Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5–7 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Lay provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture and cover the skillet with a lid. Cook for 2–3 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve the beef and cheese mixture on toasted sandwich rolls or buns.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sliced mushrooms to the sautéed peppers and onions.
  • You can swap provolone with mozzarella or cheddar for a different cheese option.
  • Serve with fries or a side salad for a complete meal.
