This Swedish meatballs recipe combines flavorful beef and pork meatballs with a creamy gravy sauce. It's an easy homemade recipe perfect for dinner and packed with authentic Swedish flavors.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into 1-inch meatballs.
  • Heat butter in a skillet and cook the meatballs in batches until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add butter and flour, whisking to form a roux. Gradually add beef broth, whisking constantly.
  • Stir in heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
  • Add the meatballs back to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a mix of ground beef and ground pork.
  • Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce for depth in the gravy.
  • Serve with lingonberry jam for a traditional Swedish pairing.
